JERRY THE KING AND STACY UPDATE The following is directly from KingLawler.com dated 07-31-01 The internet has fast become not only a place to find information, it has also become a place to spread rumors and stories, whether they are true or not. And more often than not, when a story is told and passed on, it gets added to or embellished until it doesn't even resemble the original story. That is why I am once again coming to you with this update on rumors and stories that are currently being spread around the internet about Stacy and I. I have always said, if it's about me or Stacy, don't believe it unless you read it on KingLawler.com .... so here it is...the "Truth" about those rumors!
There are some lyrics to a recent hit song that go...."The years start coming and they don't stop coming...." For my wife, Stacy and I, they should read, "The changes start coming and they don't stop coming!" On February 27th, our "happy" lives started changing and they haven't stopped changing...and by the time I finish this story, our lives, plus some other peoples' lives will change some more.
Most of you know that on February 27th, Stacy was fired from the WWF without an explanation and as a result, I quit my job with the WWF in protest to stand beside my wife. We both had great jobs in the World Wrestling Federation. Jobs most people would give their right arms for. We both had "Fame and Fortune"....It was a great life. Then suddenly it was all gone, in the blink of an eye! What a change! Probably one of the biggest changes I have ever had to endure, but without a doubt, it was the most drastic change ever in the life of my young wife, Stacy. But that change would prove to be minor compared to what has taken place since then....read on and I think you will agree!
A little over 12 years ago, at one of my team's softball games, I met the most beautiful young lady I had ever seen in my life. Her name was Stacy Carter. She was actually at the game with her Mom to see someone else on my team. She wasn't a wrestling fan and didn't really know who I was, or if she did, she certainly wasn't impressed. But I was certainly impressed. I was knocked off my feet. I don't know if the fact that she didn't care that I was a "big shot" wrestler intrigued me, or if I was just so impressed by her beauty, but I knew immediately that I wanted to see more of her. She wasn't from a "well to do" family or anything special like that. She was just a normal, regular girl from a little town called West Memphis, Arkansas. I remember I set out to impress her in every way I could. I really enjoyed showering her with gifts and trying to spoil her with attention. I felt like Rhett Butler in "Gone With The Wind" trying to charm my own Scarlett O'Hara. Stacy got money, jewelry, clothes, and cars until she was finally "overwhelmed" and she "officially" became my girlfriend.
It gave me great pleasure to see the look of joy on her face when I gave her a gift, but the greatest pleasure was just spending time with her. I even endured her soap operas just to be with her while she watched them. I still remember the first "kiss"....that was it....I was hopelessly in love. I'm sure that Stacy didn't feel the same about me at first, but I was relentless. Finally she said the words back to me that I had so wanted to hear...."I love you, too." She was so much fun to be with, I wanted her with me all the time. I eventually got her to accompany me to out of town matches and her presence made what had long since become boring trips for me, fun again. And even though there was quite a few years difference in our age, it was never, ever an issue. We were so much alike and so much in love we never even thought about it. We were very fortunate that my career had afforded us the opportunity to do anything we wanted. We had a "Fairytale" life. We never argued, or fought...it was pretty near perfect!
When I first met Stacy, she was working in a Doctor's office. From there she decided she wanted to become a cosmetologist. She went to school for what seemed like an eternity, but finally got her license to style hair. Stacy wasn't content to just work at a salon, she wanted to own her own salon! In a bold move of "independence" Stacy borrowed money from a bank instead of me and bought her own shop. She named it "A Perfect Cut" and I worked along with her to put the finishing touches on it and get it ready for the grand opening. I stayed up all night long several nights painting large murals on the walls of her salon to give it a unique look. It was a great hair salon. I was so proud of Stacy for what she had accomplished. The business took a lot of hard work and a lot of time but it was a success. I must admit, I was a little jealous of that salon because it took so much of Stacy's time, and that meant time I could not spend with her.
So somewhere along this time, I convinced Stacy to move into my house with me so we could be together as much as possible. She was a great homemaker. She was exactly what I needed. She kept the house spotless, even between visits by our housekeeper, Therese. She was a great cook...self taught...there was nothing she couldn't make. She added her own special touches to the house, she was a great decorator. And she even had me cancel the lawn service because she wanted to cut the grass herself! Stacy was perfect in every room of the house...the living room, the kitchen, and especially the bedroom...if you know what I mean! She was the best. I couldn't have asked for a better woman. She made my life wonderful. I was as happy as I possibly could be. I had a great job in the WWF, I owned my own wrestling company in Memphis, and I had a wonderful companion, lover, and friend in Stacy. Life was good! It was good to be the "King"....
I don't remember exactly what month or year it was...96 or 97, but I do remember the WWF was really featuring women on their shows a lot and the fans really seemed to love seeing the WWF "Divas". Our television show in Memphis was in need of a facelift and I thought the addition of a pretty female face might be just what the doctor ordered. I also knew I didn't have to look very far for a "pretty female face".....I looked at one each and every day...Stacy's! When I first told her I wanted her to be on the TV show and interview some of the wrestlers, she almost got sick at her stomach. She said there was no way she could do it....it would make her too nervous. I knew she could...I had faith in her. After much pleading and coaching she was finally ready to make her debut on Memphis television. Extra pressure was put on Stacy due to the fact the show was "live"...if you screwed up there was nothing you could do about it, everybody would see your mistakes! When the time came for her to go out into the studio in front of the crowd and cameras...she panicked! Stacy started crying and begging me not to make her go on the air! But it was too late...she had to go...so I literally pushed her through the curtain...out in front of the cameras! Stacy was on TV...."Live"...and she was great! A natural! The cameras seemed to love her...she looked great from every angle. I was so proud of her! I think I knew at that moment, my Stacy was going to be a "Star".
I'll never forget that everyone gave her "rave reviews" and it really boosted her confidence. Each week she got better and better and more comfortable on camera. A few weeks into Stacy's appearances, I got the idea for her to do a phone segment on the show where she would interview a wrestler, over the phone, that had been well known in the Memphis area but had since moved elsewhere. I reasoned the perfect first guest for Stacy to interview would be my mentor, Jackie Fargo!
Jackie had helped me get started in the business and I felt there was no one better to help Stacy as well. Besides, Jackie was a great interviewer and knew Stacy well and I knew he could make her feel at ease. Jackie lives in a little town called China Grove, N.C. so I called him up to let him know we wanted to have Stacy interview him on the Wrestling show. I got him on the phone, and I said "Hi, Pop!" He said, "Hi, Son!" That was the kind of relationship Jackie and I have had over the years. I learned more about this business from Jackie Fargo than anyone I have ever come in contact with. I remember telling Jackie we wanted to interview him over the phone for the show on Saturday. He said, "Fine, who will be interviewing me, Dave Brown?" Dave was our regular commentator for the show so I guess Jackie just assumed it would be him conducting the interview. That's when I told Jackie that I had put Stacy on the show and that she would be interviewing him. There was a long pause....silence.....I finally said, "Is something wrong?" And Jackie said, "Son, what are you thinking?" "You put Stacy into this business?" "Pretty little Stacy?" "Your girlfriend, Stacy?" he said, "You're making a big mistake....you're going to regret it."
I figured he felt she wasn't experienced enough to conduct a good interview with him and that was the reason for his concern. I said, "Don't worry, Jackie, she's done other interviews before, she's good at it...she'll do fine!" He said, "That's not what I mean, Son....Stacy is a beautiful and talented girl...I'm sure that she can do the interview...what I'm telling you is....mark my words....If you put your girlfriend, Stacy in this business, you'll lose her!" "Maybe not right away, but eventually, I can promise you, you will lose her....she will leave you." I laughed and asked, "Jackie, why do you say that? Why do you think Stacy being in the wrestling business will make her leave me?"
I've never forgotten the answer he gave me when I asked him that question............I'll share it with you in my next update, stay tuned! BACK TO HOME PAGE |
