With a background of judo and kickboxing, Angelica aka Miss Congeniality, launched her career in the spring of 1999. Appearing as Angelica at some ECW house shows, her first real exposure was at the Heat Wave PPV in July 1999. Shortly thereafter the 23 year old (1999) native of Florida entered The Funking Conservatory II wrestling school in Ocala FL before continuing her role as Danny Doring's valet. She left the ECW in late 1999 and the rumors immediately began flying that she was going to appear in the WWF as a valet which she did in February 2000. She made her WWF debut as Lita, the valet for the Light Heavyweight Champion Essa Rios. She stayed with him for several months, which included a number of good battles against Chyna and Eddie Guerrero. By the end of May she left Essa Rios after catching him hanging out with the Godfather and the Ho's.
2001 was not a successful year for Lita, at least regarding the Women's Championship as she challenged only 5 times during the whole year, facing the likes of Ivory, Chyna and Trish. Unfortunately she was unable to capitalize on her chances to win the title back. One of the highlights for her career did happen during the year as she became fully recognized as a WWF "Diva" when she was featured on the cover of the special collector's edition of the WWF's "Divas 2001" Magazine!
Lita appeared on the April 21, 2003 episode of RAW, where she was ostensibly fired from her position as Sunday Night Heat color commentator by General Manager Eric Bischoff after she rejected his advances and his request that she follow in the footsteps of Torrie Wilson and pose for Playboy. She returned to the ring after an absence of seventeen months on the September 15, 2003 episode of RAW, saving Trish Stratus from a beating at the hands of Molly Holly and Gail Kim. Lita competed in the women's division throughout early 2004, and was reunited with Matt Hardy on the April 19, 2004 episode of RAW when Hardy attacked Kane in an attempt to prevent him from harming Lita. In the following weeks, Kane began repeatedly assaulting Hardy and attempting to seduce Lita.
On the June 14, 2004 episode of RAW, Lita revealed that she was pregnant. One week later, it once again appeared that Hardy would propose to Lita. However, the proposal was interrupted by Kane, who claimed that he, not Hardy, was the father of Lita's child, as Lita had slept with Kane to persuade him to stop attacking Hardy. Two months later, it was revealed that Kane was in fact the father. Hardy and Kane feuded for several months, culminating in a "'Till Death do Us Part" match at SummerSlam 2004, with the stipulation that Lita would be obliged to marry Kane should Hardy lose. Kane won the match, leading to he and a reluctant Lita marrying one another on the August 23, 2004 episode of RAW. Despite being married to Kane, Lita harried him during his matches, constantly aiding his opponents. On the September 13, 2004 episode of RAW, Lita miscarried after Gene Snitsky struck Kane with a chair, resulting in him falling on Lita. The miscarriage led to Lita and Kane joining forces in order to take revenge upon Snitsky. With the pregnancy angle over, Lita returned to the women's division in November 2004. She challenged Trish Stratus for the Women's Championship on several occasions, finally defeating her to begin her second reign as champion in the main event of the December 6, 2004 episode of RAW.
The alignment of Lita with Edge had resulted from an off-screen series of events that saw Lita cheat on Matt Hardy, in reality her boyfriend of five years, with Edge, until then a close friend of Hardy's. Shortly after the event, Hardy was released from WWE. Knowledge of the situation was rapidly dispersed among fans, and audiences at WWE events began chanting for Matt Hardy. The situation was eventually acknowledged by WWE. Lita won the Women's Championship belt twice in 2006 (her 3rd and 4th title reign). She won her 4th title during the Cyber Sunday PPV by beating Mickie James in a Lumber Jack match, after several weeks of elimination matches were deemed necessary when Trish Stratus retired/vacated the title. She defended against Mickie once again the next night on Raw, but stipulated that Mickie had to have her hands tied behind her back. Finally 2 weeks later on Raw, Lita announced that she would wrestle one last time at the Survivor Series PPV, win the match, and , and retire undefeated. It was not to be, as Mickie James beat her to win her 2nd title belt. |
