01/10/99 During an in depth interview on Sunday Night Heat w/Michael Cole, Sable accepted the challenge by Luna for the Women's Championship Belt at the Royal Rumble. On Monday Night Raw, the woman who gave Sable the rose two weeks ago and who is according to rumor, supposed to be either Sable's sister or an obsessed fan, attacked Luna. Looking at the pictures closely the WWF did a good job of finding someone to look like Sable's sister. That's my guess anyway. It still hasn't been officially confirmed who she is. 01/17/99 Just before the arm wrestling match on Sunday Night Heat between Chyna and V. McMahon,Luna got a call to ringside from Shane McMahon as a replacement for Chyna. As Luna came down the ramp she was attacked from behind supposedly by Sable. Jerry the King & Michael Cole were saying it was Sable and the refs that were trying to break the fight up were calling her Sable. It wasn't Sable, I repeat it was not Sable. It was the sister/obsessed fan that attacked Luna. For pics from the action - Click Here.
01/18/99 Apparently Luna didn't care that it wasn't Sable that attacked her last night on Heat. When Sable came out tonight during Chyna's match with the Stooges, she got as far as the end of the ramp before a hooded lady began beating the heck out of her with a belt. Of course we know it was Luna. Now the event between the two at the Royal Rumble has escalated into a strap match. Luna's vicious, but I think it's not in her stars yet to obtain the Women's Championship Belt. For pics from the action - Click Here.
01/24/99 Sunday Night Heat During Sunday Night Heat just before the Royal Rumble No Chance In Hell PPV, Sable came out to ringside to discuss with Michael Cole how she felt about Luna challenging for the Women's Championship Belt. Sable said that she felt Luna really should have a chance at the title when Luna attacked her from behind and got a backbreaker on her. Luna then proceeded top work on Sable's lower back some more until officials could run her off. Would this undermine Sable's chance of retaining the belt in less than one hour? For pics from this action - Click Here. NOT AT ALL. As Shane McMahon was in the ring at the beginning of the strap match telling Luna that somehow Sable had developed a back injury and would not be able to defend the title, out she came. Limping slightly and holding her back all the way into the ring, Sable grabbed the mic from Shane and all she said was "Ring The Bell!" As soon as the bell was rung Sable took the initiative and began whipping Luna furiously with the strap. Luna quickly departed the ring, whereupon Sable pulled on the strap and pulled Luna right into the ring post. Luna finally reentered the ring, and began to dish out to Sable some of what she had already gotten. Sable eventually flipped Luna into a corner and touched one post , then a second and was on her way to the third when Luna pulled on the strap and the tide began to turn in her favor again. As Sable was pulled towards her, Luna took the opportunity to hit her opponent right in the mid-section knocking her to the mat. With her opponent momentarily helpless, Luna wrapped the strap around Sable's neck and began choking her with the it. With Sable in a weakened condition, Luna went to working on Sable's lower back area for a minute, then went right back to the choking maneuver. Luna now appeared to have the match totally in hand. Luna easily touched the first 3 corner posts before Sable found a reserve of strength and began spinning Luna around before finally causing her to lift off her feet and fall chest first onto the mat. This caused the tide of the match to swing back towards Sable's advantage, as she hit Luna several times with the strap and backed her into the corner of the ring and beat her senseless once more. Unfortunately Sable became over confident and after swinging Luna into the opposing corner, she took a running start at her opponent, and run into the ring post as Luna quickly moved out of the way. Luna quickly capitalized on this, and put the second backbreaker on Sable for the evening. It appeared once again that this might spell the end for the current Women's Champion, as Luna went back to using the strap and choking Sable. Luna got Sable up onto her feet and then with the strap still around Sable's throat, Luna began walking towards the ring post for the tag, dragging Sable along on her back. Sable who was still trying to recover from the combination of the backbreaker and gasping for air while her opponent choked her with the strap, was unable to do anything while Luna drug her around helplessly. Luna tagged the first post and headed for the second, but not before Sable was also able to tag the post. Still maintaining her superiority, Luna headed for ring post number to and was able to tag it. Unbeknownst to her though, Sable was able to do the same, as well with post number 3. As Luna headed for the final ring post, Sable was able to pull both combatants into the middle of the ring, and away from Luna's final destination. Sable then flipped herself over Luna and ran towards the ringpost to try for the win. Just as she reached about halfway to her goal, Luna tugged on the strap and pulled Sable backwards, causing her to fall to the mat. In the meantime Shane McMichael, feeling that Luna was going to lose when Sable had headed for the 4th ringpost, had gotten up on ring apron and was distracting the ref while Luna regained her composure. As Luna headed towards the final ringpost for the win, the fan lady jumped up onto the ring apron and decked Luna while the ref was still talking with Shane. The fan quickly jumped into the audience and disappeared (isn't it funny that it's the same security guy chasing her as the last time she appeared). The only thing the ref saw was Sable tagging the last ringpost, and so he gave her the win. For all the pics - Click Here.
02/07/99 Sable was a special guest commentator on Sunday Night Heat during the match between Luna and Jacquelyn. This match was to decide which woman was the #1 contender to the WWF Women's Championship belt that Sable currently holds. Luna was able place a DDT on Jackie and get the pin. For pics - Click Here.
02/15/99 Monday Night Raw Well Sable came out and certainly said what was on her mind in an interview with Kevin Kelly in the ring. She also acted as her own press agent, going on and on about what she is and will be up to. But she did say that she owed it all to her fans. Then her star struck fan managed to enter the ring as security grabbed her just in time. Sable told security to go ahead and let the woman go, and then Sable acted like a complete spoiled, selfish little brat and humiliated the woman unmercifully. Finally the woman was carried off by security, while Jerry the King and Michael Cole were left in amazement at Sable's new attitude. For pics - Click Here.
02/18/99 Regis & Kathy Lee Sable made an appearance on The Regis & Kathy Lee show. She had a very polite conversation with Kathy Lee and then should Regis some moves so he could tangle with Steve Austin next week on the show. After seeing her on the show, trust me, the new attitude is an act. For pics - Click Here.
02/22/99 Monday Night Raw Sable came out again this week for another interview with Kevin Kelly with this new "I'm better than you attitude." Kevin told her that many people were taken back by her attitude to which her reply was that "Oh Kevin I think you misunderstood, they weren't taken back, they admired it. In fact they admire everything that Sable does. Did you see me on Regis & Kathy Lee? I was to die for!" Sable saw Tori (The Sable fan) out in the audience and told her to come into the ring, just so she could belittle her. At this point Luna came out to tell Sable that all women couldn't look like her and that the only way she got where she was, was because of her looks. As Luna and the fan were leaving, Sable attacked both women from behind with her title belt and left the ring. For pics - Click Here.
03/01/99 Monday Night Raw Luna and Tori came out to the ring together to talk about Sable who had treated Tori so badly the week before and it appeared that Tori had changed sides after her mistreatment the week before. As Luna issued a challenge to Sable, Tori seemed to relish the thought of her and Luna getting even. As soon as Sable reached the ring Luna was there to meet her, but Tori quickly jumped Luna from behind and she as unable to defend herself against the totally unexpected attack. Tori and Sable began kicking the stuffing's out of Luna and Sable finally Sable-bombed her. Tori acted thrilled that she had helped her idol defeat Luna but Sable totally ignored the fact that Tori was even alive. Acting like a sex symbol, Sable gave us a sexy "grind" and promptly left the ring. For Pics - Click Here. Now I like Sable and if she want's to act like God's gift to men, then so be it, she is. But I hope Sable that you don't consider that a title belt defense, because your over 30 days and haven't defended the belt.
03/08/99 Monday Night Raw Sable came out dragging Tori along with her, and a copy of Playboy for Jerry The King to drool over. While Sable was doing color commentary during the Luna & Tori matchup, her and Jerry were definitely more interested in the Playboy spread than on the match. Once Tori got beat up by Luna Sable told Jerry she was going to go help Tori. She sure did, she helped her to a couple of punt kicks right to the ribs and then she tore the "Sable Bomb" T-shirt off of Tori. For Pics - Click Here.
03/15/99 Monday Night Raw Sable came out to have an interview with Jerry The King, once again pushing her Playboy photo shoot and after teasing the audience with a few censored shots she told everyone that if they wanted to see more they would have to pay. Out came Tori who told Sable that the fans could see her for free. One thing led to another and Tori challenged Sable to a match at Wrestlemania XV. For Pics - Click Here.
03/22/99 Monday Night Raw Well how convenient of Sable to put up the belt - in a non-title match. As far as I know she hasn't defended since 1/24/99 which means she shouldn't have the belt anymore anyways, but she had a match against Ivory who almost beat her twice. The only reason Ivory didn't get the job done was on account of PMS. They came out during the match gave D'Lo a bad time and when he retaliated the ref got distracted with the argument between D'Lo and Terri, and this gave Jackie the chance to trip Ivory and allow Sable to put the Sable Bomb on her opponent. As soon as Sable was declared the winner Tori came blasting down the runway. For Pics - Click Here.
3/28/99 Wrestlemania XV PPV Although Sable did defend her belt finally (last defense - 1/24/99) she was not real classy at doing it. First she had to come out and strut her stuff (I personally like her stuff, but jeez Sable this is getting really old), and then she decided that she would not allow Tori to enter the ring to get the match underway. As Tori would walk around the ring trying to find a place to enter sable would begin taunting her opponent by starting her "grind". Once Sable did let Tori into the ring she quickly took control of the match by throwing Tori around like a rag doll and then giving her several karate licks to the chest. Then she threw her right back out of the ring and to the floor. As Tori picked herself up and tried to get back into the ring Sable went for her hair, but Tori was quick enough to grab Sable's leg instead and pull her outside the ring. At this point Sable's face took a few dings and dents as Tori used the edge of the apron and the guard rail for a backstop. Sable of course with her new prima donna attitude acted like "how could you do this to MY face!?!?!?" Tori then showed her what she could do to her chest by giving it a explosive chop. Sable managed to overpower Tori and whipped her into the guard rail, once again changing the complexion of the match back to Sable being in control. After taking a flying leap from the ring apron onto Tori, Sable picked her up, threw her back into the ring and began giving her some more karate kicks. Once again Sable had to strut her stuff and Tori found the strength to knock her dead on her butt. She then pounced on top of Sable and began pummeling her with fists to the face and head while Sable squirmed around pretty much defenseless until she got to the ropes. Tori punished Sable even more as she whipped her into a corner of the ring and applied a lethal clothesline not once but twice. She went to the well once to often though when she tried the whip for a third time. Sable was able to reverse the whip and throw Tori into the corner, but when Sable went to bury her shoulder in Tori's mid-section she found no one home. Tori countered with a beautiful maneuver that left Sable with her shoulders pinned to the mat and almost falling under the 3 count. This seemed to wake Sable up to the fact that she very well could lose the title belt to her opponent. After almost getting pinned again Sable went on the offensive and missed twice with two karate kicks and a clothesline while Tori ended up taking out the ref. Tori was so weakened that Sable was able to set her up for a Sablebomb. Tori somehow managed to escape and land crouched on her feet and deliver a blow to Sable's stomach, enabling her to get Sable into the position for a powerbomb. It never happened as this huge woman (Nicole Bass) bigger than 'the ninth wonder' entered the ring and grabbed Tori, lifted her above her head and body slammed her almost through the mat. At that moment Sable was unsure what the big woman's intentions were but it was apparent that Nicole was not going to come after her. Sable then scooped up her totally devastated opponent, put the Sablebomb on her and won the match. Of course Sable had to end the match by showboating for the "women who want to be me and the men who want to see me". For pics - Click Here.
3/29/99 Monday Night Raw This had to be one of the all time screw ups for a tag team and you would have figured that it would be Jackie that would screw Sable but it actually turned out the other way around for once. That's right - Jackie/Sable w/Terri vs. Ivory/Tori. Once Tori and Ivory arrived at ringside Ivory wasted no time attacking and throwing Jacquelyn around quit handily. Tori got the tag from Ivory and went into the ring to face Jackie as Ivory decided to chase Terri Runnels all the way up the ramp and backstage for burning her face with the cigar the night before. While Tori helplessly watched her teammate disappear, Jackie used her usual tactic and hit Tori from behind. Tori quickly recovered with a cross-body and a lateral press for the two count and Jacquelyn decided it was time to tag her teammate. I'm sure Jackie still regrets doing that. As soon as Sable came into the ring she clobbered Jackie in the back of the head with her title belt. The ref didn't seem to care as Tori got the win for herself and Ivory. Just as Tori appeared to be taunting Sable into a fight between the two of them the lights dimmed and out came the Undertaker and his minions who surrounded Sable in the ring. The Undertaker told her he wanted to see what she had. Sable decided to give him the 'grind' which didn't work on the big man one little bit. He grabbed her by the throat and hollered for Vince McMahon to come out before he broke her neck. This was used as a red herring to get Vince to leave his daughter unprotected in a room backstage, whereupon his return she had been kidnapped by someone who must be working for the Undertaker. 04/12/99 Monday Night Raw OK so the WWF women's title is becoming a joke, is Vince going to make it respectable or not? The last title defense Sable made at the Wrestlemania PPV was a joke since Nicole Bass interfered. But this title defense was even more reprehensible. It was to be a 4 corner match between Sable/Tori/Ivory/Jackie. First off I don't feel these 4 corner matches should be for title belts since luck plays into it every bit as much as skill, but anyway.... Once all the women were in the ring the final entrant being Jackie the fun began. As Jackie walked up to Sable to tell her off Nicole grabbed her by the throat and choke slammed her to the mat. Tori went to tell Sable to call her big gorilla off and got the same thing done to her. Ivory who hadn't said a word or bothered anyone (she stayed completely in her corner) become the next victim for a Nicole choke slam. That pretty well cleared the ring and left Sable with the belt. My only question is - Sable how long do you think Nicole is gonna do your dirty work before she figures out she can probably take out any other woman in the WWF including Chyna and she grabs that belt for herself???? 04/18/99 Sunday Heat In an in-ring interview with Michael Cole Sable explained to the world why she (Sable, Inc.) needs a body guard and she officially introduced us to Nicole Bass.
04/19/99 Monday Night Raw Val Venis came out for a match but was interrupted by Sable, although it didn't look like he really minded. She told him she had an important announcement and he could just wait. The announcement was the fact that she is going to do a shoot for a second issue of Playboy. Now for all you guys complaining about Sable and her attitude, you must not mind her attitude too much since the Sable edition of Playboy sold more copies than anyone else in 15 years. But anyhow... Ivory came out to attack Sable. Val went to pull her off and D'Lo clobbered him which kept both of them busy while Nicole Bass came out and took control of the whole situation. As D'Lo carried Ivory off after the chokeslam place on her by Nicole, Sable was shouting "I'm Sable you can't do this to me" and "This is about me, get her out of here". For pics - Click Here.
04/25/99 Heat/Backlash PPV Sable was supposed to appear in a mixed tag team match on the Backlash PPV with her partner Val Venis against D'Lo/Ivory. It was announced during Sunday Night Heat that she had Hollywood commitments and could not be there for the match. For the further developments of this match go to the Ivory page. Isn't it funny that Sable Inc. needs a bodyguard but Nicole Bass appears during the match between Val & D'Lo? Apparently Sable feels safe in Hollywood!
05/03/99 Monday Night Raw Once again Sable was scheduled to make an appearance but she didn't show. At the beginning of the evening Shane had announced a evening gown strip match between Sable and Debra. Debra came out but Sable was nowhere to be found except on the Titantron telling Debra that she wasn't going to show but that her 'stunt double' would. Unfortunately for Debra the stunt double was none other than Nicole Bass. For the rest of what happened go over to the Debra Page.
05/10/99 Monday Night Raw Well whatta you know! Sable finally made an appearance after 3 weeks. Unfortunately she probably wished she hadn't by the end of the evening. This was for a rescheduled evening gown strip match between her and Debra. Sable came down to the ring along with Nicole and she took the mic and did her usual "This is for all the women who want to be me....". Just he she finished we heard Val's theme music and out from backstage came the Big Valbowski! Apparently he wanted to get a better view of this event. As Debra and Val were making eyes at each other Sable snuck up behind Debra and stripped her gone off in just a few seconds, which meant she was supposedly the winner. The 'commish' Shawn Michaels changed all that, but not until Val got chased up the ramp by Nicole who was hot for his body and he walked right into a Jeff Jarrett guitar special that split his head open. Michael Cole began an interview with Sable about her win as Shawn came into the ring and explained to her that he felt the rules we're a little bit different that the way Sable thought the rules were. He decided that the woman who lost her dress should be the winner. With that ruling he presented Debra with the belt while Sable was hollering at him "You can't do that , that's my belt!" 05/20/99 Internet Rumor It is being reported that Sable is becoming a real pain in the ass and may soon be leaving the WWF.
06/5/99 It has been reported by the AP wire service that Sable has sued the WWF for $110 million dollars and has quit. For the wire service article along with a report sent to us by The Hawk courtesy of Dave Meltzer and Kirk Hoffman - Click Here.
06/14/99 A copy of Sable's lawsuit against the WWF has been posted - Click Here. Sable appeared on WCW Monday Nitro in the first row along with two body guards. At the beginning of the program she was not sitting there, and didn't appear until after the first hour. She left before the end of the show. Although WCW did show her on camera, Eric Bischoff and the other TV Commentators never did call her by name.
08/20/99 The lawsuit has been settled but the exact terms have not been disclosed. It seems that both sides are under an agreement to not discuss the settlement. What is supposedly known: 1) The WWF retains the name 'Sable' 2) Rena Mero is released from her WWF contract. 3) Rena Mero gets no money 4) Rena Mero cannot be involved in wrestling until Oct. 2001
08/30/99 For an in-depth view of the flip side of the WWF/Rena Mero controversary - Click Here. This is an article that was written by Vince Russo in the Sept. 1999 issue of Raw Magazine.
09/21/99 We all have, by now, heard the story about Rena Mero and her standings of the World Wrestling Federation. From pranks behind the scenes to baring some nudity on national television as well as in front of fans which a small portion of the amount are young kids. With all that along with more, Rena filed a lawsuit against the WWF. But currently, it's the other way around. According to Laura Italiano and Dareh Gregorian of the New York Post, the WWF filed a suit yesterday in Manhattan Federal Court, charges against Playboy's promotion of a special issue featuring Rena Mero, "unlawfully and unfairly uses and exploits WWF's legally protected intellectual property without WWF's authorization or consent." The WWF wants a judge to stop the special - "Playboy's Wrestling Superstar" and purports to portray "The Woman You Loved as Sable in the Raw" - from hitting newsstands next month. "The Sable trademark, trade dress and character were created and developed by the WWF," the organization's suit claims, charging Playboy will cash in on their image. "The Sable characteristic persona is that of a sexy, sultry temptress, a 'sex kitten' who has developed a 'stuck-up' disposition ..." the suit says, adding Mero is dressed in an outfit similar to her "Sable" costume on the Playboy cover. Officials for Playboy didn't return calls for comment. (Darryl Villacorta, The BIG 3 NewsBoard)
09/22/99 Playboy's Official Press Release: There is no legal basis for the lawsuit which has been brought by the WWF against Playboy to prevent publication of Playboy's Newsstand Special entitled "Playboy's Wrestling Superstar: Rena Mero" which is scheduled for publication in October. The WWF is apparently seeking to prohibit any publicity for Mrs. Mero which describes her former life as the wrestling superstar SABLE. Playboy is well within its legal rights in publishing a newsstand special devoted to Ms. Mero. The WWF's attempt to prevent Ms. Mero's fans from getting access to this newsstand special will be vigorously defended by Playboy and Playboy fully expects the Court to vindicate its rights to publish the Rena Mero Newsstand Special. Any implication by the WWF that Playboy's Rena Mero Newsstand Special was done without Ms. Mero's permissions is false. Any implication that Playboy needed the WWF's permission to do a Rena Mero Newsstand Special is legally baseless. (James Caldwell, the BIG 3 NewsBoard)
