![]() As a fitness model Trish had appeared in and on numerous magazines and several TV shows including Inside Edition - Legends of Fitness Challenge coverage and featured on the Jenny Jones Show - Fitness Celebrity Success Story. Initially we had to wait for several months after the rumor was confirmed that Trish Stratus had signed a contract with the WWF. Finally on March 19, 2000 during Sunday Night Heat we had our first look at the gorgeous Miss Stratus. At 5'4" and 118 lbs. and a body to 'die for', she immediately made it clear to everyone that she had no problem using her assets to get ahead in the WWF. The very next night she announced that she knew what everybody wanted - T&A - and the tag team of Test & Prince Albert was born. She quickly set their sights on the Dudley Boyz and launched a campaign to make their live miserable for the next few months. During this time Trish made her first PPV appearance at Backlash 2000 which the Dudley's utilized to their advantage by slamming Trish through a table. Within weeks T&A avenged themselves on the Dudley's when Trish reappeared to ring action.
Trish now guided Val Venus to the King Of The Ring PPV semi-finals later that month against Rikishi and 'Latin Heat' Eddie Guerrero and 'Mamacita" Chyna. IT was obvious that Trish had bitten of more than she could chew since she usually came out of the several encounters with 'The Ninth Wonder' on the short end of the stick. Also around this time a rumor cropped up that Trish had been made an offer from Playboy to do a centerfold, but this never developed into anything more than just a rumor about the blonde bombshell that the WWF Next up for Trish was a number of battles with the other very hot upcoming personality - Lita. This feud netted Lita a big push and showed that Trish was not just T&A but had the physical abilities the WWF were looking for in a gorgeous female. By July Trish was really feeling good about her newfound status and after guiding Val Venus to an Intercontinental Title (defeating Rikishi) she decided to antagonize both Stephanie and Chyna. In August Trish made another PPV appearance - SummerSlam 2000 - as Val's partner in an Intergender Intercontinental Title match against Chyna and Eddie. Trish once again forgot that Chyna was probably more than she should aim for, as Chyna body slammed her and won the Intercontinental Title for herself a second time. This of course infuriated Val who now wanted nothing to do with Trish, so she once again worked with T&A and continued her feud Stephanie. In October 2000 Trish finally was given a Women's Championship Title shot twice within a week. The first match was a legitimate match while the second was a Bra and Panties Match. Neither match saw Trish as a winner but the fans certainly were by getting to view Trish in just a bra and panties! In November Trish once more challenged for the Women's Title in a Four Corners Match but was unable to capitalize on the opportunity. To round out 2000 Trish seemed to loose interest in the tag team of T&A, but appeared really interested in using her T&A in dating the boss - Vince McMahon. To start off 2001 Stephanie violently objected to her Daddy making Trish Stratus his new playtoy while Mom (Linda McMahon) was in a mental hospital. This turned into a full blown feud between the two women during the Royal Rumble where Stephanie attacked Trish. A match was set up for the two at the No Way Out PPV in February, which Stephanie won with the aid of Stephen Regal. As a final insult Vince turned on Trish the next night on Raw and he allowed Stephanie to completely humiliate his former girlfriend by having Stephanie push Trish's head into a horrible bucket of goop and then using the mop on her!
The next night on Raw Stephanie challenged Trish to a Strap Match. Although Trish got the upperhand, William Regal interfered by slamming Trish and holding her while Stephanie smacked her unrelentlessly with the strap. Once again Canada's TSN censored the segment. Two weeks later Trish announced to the world that it was she who had made sure that Linda McMahon was taken off her medication!
Trish returned to ringside action in late October 2001 in a Divas Tag Team Match, paired with Lita! By November it was announced that a Six Pack Challenge Match was to be held at The Survivor Series PPV. The winner would be crowned the new WWF Women's Champion since the title had been vacated by a MIA Chyna. This would pit Trish, Jacqueline and Lita for the WWF against Ivory, Molly Holly and a surprise wrestler for the Alliance members (formed by the defunct ECW/WCW takeover by the WWF). Somehow Trish was able to win the match while facing the adversity of competing with superior wrestlers! She went on to win the WWF 2001 Babe Of The Year Contest while retaining her WWF Title into 2002 but is facing some stiff competition from ex-ECW newcomer Jazz who had plans to acquire the Women's Championship Belt by hook or crook. Trish had fought off numerous attacks from behind from Jazz, which included a sneak attack during a backstage interview with Lilian Garcia that ended with Trish's hand being broken by having a trunk lid slammed on it. Jazz starting off 2002 against Trish with an unprecedented "push" by the WWF for someone so new to the Federation. Trish still managed to retain her title beating Jazz the next two times they met, but the third time was finally the charm for the powerful black Amazon. On a Monday Night Raw in February 2002 Jazz finally became the WWF Women's Champion. For the next 3 months (02/02/02 - 05/06/02) Jazz furiously battled with Trish Stratus over the Championship Title Belt. The only other contenders for the title during that time were Molly Holly and a WrestleMania 18 Triple Threat Match that included Lita. Sometime during her reign Jazz developed some bothersome symptoms that turned out to be a torn ACL (anterior cruciate ligament ) in her left knee. Unable to continue without having the problem operated on, the WWE came up with one of the strangest matches ever devised. In a unique contest Trish Stratus entered the ring along with Bubba Ray Dudley in a tag match against Stevie Richards and Jazz. Although it was a tag match, the rules stated that only the women could face each other and the men could only trade blows with Hardcore match rules also applying. Both the Women's Championship and the Hardcore Championship would be on the line as well. Bubba was able to take care of Stevie while Trish dispatched Jazz to again hold the title belt. In a period of a month (05/19/02 - 06/23/02) Trish put the title up an unprecedented 5 times before losing to Molly Holly at the King Of The Ring PPV. Molly held the belt for the next 3 months (06/23/02 - 09/22/02) losing to Trish, who then went on a another almost weekly title defense. From 09/23/02 - 11/17/02 Trish defended the tile 6 times finally losing to her new nemesis - Victoria - at the Survivor Series PPV. To top off the year 2002 Trish also won the Babe of the Year contest for the second time. For 2003 Trish started the year by winning the Diva of the Decade award at the Raw 10th Anniversary show and went on to win Babe of the Year 2003 - for her third consecutive Babe of the Year award. Wrestling wise Trish did not have a real successful year as she only held the title for one month during the season. In February 2004, Molly defended the title in a Fatal Four Way match, losing to Victoria who would be serving her 2nd stint as the Women's WWE Champion. During the next 4 months Victoria successfully defended the title against Molly twice and Lita, then met her doom in June at the Bad Blood PPV Fatal Four Way match against Trish, Lita and Gail Kim. Just as it looked like Lita would regain the title once again, she was surprised by Trish who pinned her and became the first ever 5 time Women's Champion. From there Trish had a dynamite year, defending her title 7 times, although it should also be marked for some controversy, and some of Trish's great deviousness. In July, Molly, Nidia and Victoria were in the ring for a "Envelope on a Pole" match. The person to snag the envelope would have a future match with Trish for the title. Tyson Tomko and Trish Stratus made their way out to the announcer's table, with Trish sporting a wrist cast, due to a legitimate injury that was supposed to put her out of action for 4-6 weeks. As Nidia celebrated in the ring Trish and Tyson headed towards the ring so Trish could congratulate Nidia on her win. "I would give you a hand but I can't. Do you realize what you have in your hand? The opportunity of a lifetime. A golden opportunity if you will. I mean the chance to face me!" At this point Trish entered the ring and stood in front of Nidia and continued, "I mean think about it, in the near future, you and I will be facing each other... I mean when I'm ready!" and then Trish hauled off and slugged Nidia right in the head with her cast. Trish immediately told the ref "I think I'm ready, ring the bell ref!" It had to be the fastest Women's Championship title defenses ever!! It would be more than two months before Trish would defend the title again, which brought to mind the question of what happened to the 30 day rule! It seems that everyone over at WWE either forgot, ignored or misplaced the fact that a title holder is supposed to defend at least once in 30 days or lose the belt! Although she didn't compete until September , Trish was definitely up to her devilish vamp tricks. In August a feud with Lita started developing right after Summer Slam, when Trish decided to give Lita a Wedding Shower prior to the pregnant Diva marrying the baby's father - Kane! Trish entered the women's locker room with the a few of WWE Divas. Trish told Lita they had a surprise for her and that they wanted to turn her frown upside down - so they decided to throw her a bridal shower. The women presented her with birth control pills and condoms and told her she didn't have to worry about the baby because this is what it would look like. Gail Kim then held up a picture of a baby with Kane's face superimposed on it. Trish said that Lita could thank them now, but Lita just looked at the Divas with a lot of anger. Trish then wished Lita good luck. In October, after successfully defending her title against Victoria at the Unforgiven PPV and Stacy the next month (how hard was that), Trish walked up to Lita in the backstage area, and said she looked pretty. Trish was glad she bumped into Lita, because what a year she has had. She got back with Matt, ruined that, and married Kane. Trish asked if Lita fell for the big fellow, but it doesn't matter, because she ruined his career too. Trish said Lita has a lot of men to choose from on Raw, and said as a friend she is concerned about her pregnancy weight. Trish said Lita looked chubby, and once again Lita attacked Trish. Finally in November the two got a chance to battle one another at the Survivor Series PPV. Lita was a wildcat and Trish struggled to fight off the crazed Diva. She was finally able to slam Lita head first into the announcer's table, but then Lita sent Trish face first into a chair. Lita grabbed a steel chair and hammered away at Trish and was disqualified. The following week after a match between Molly and Lita, Trish came out to the ring with a nose piece on. She asked Lita if she was happy, since it was her fault she had to wear the THING on her face... her beautiful face. She told Lita that she was going to pay, right NOW. Trish hit the ring and Lita slammed Trish right in the nose with an open palm! Lita left the ring laughing as Trish screamed and cried. Lita was able to regain the title for her 2nd Championship on a Monday Night Raw in December. In one of the best women's matches ever Lita grabbed Trish from behind and nailed her with a reverse Twist of Fate and then climbed the top rope and hit Trish with the moonsault for the win. I was thinking at the time I was watching the match, that it was one of the best women's matches ever. It might not have had all the "WOW" effect it needed but technically it was one of the tightest matches ever. It was definitely on a par with the top men's matches. One month later in January 2005, Trish and Lita had another matchup on Monday Night Raw, with Trish leaving the ring as the winner and the first ever 6-time Women's Champion. She went on to successfully defend her title in a Triple Threat Match in Febuary, and again at WrestleMania 21, followed by a rematch the next evening on Raw. After a tag team match late in April Trish was sidelined with a herniated disk and did not compete again until early September, after making her return by saving the 2005 Diva Search winner Ashley from Torrie, Candice and Victoria. Later that month she successfully defended her title against Victoria and went on to retain her title until WrestleMania 22 in April 2006. |
